Foster finishes first full marathon at Oulton Park

On 16 August, club athlete Xander Foster completed his first marathon, Running GP Oulton Park, in a Personal Best time of 02:49:33.

This is part of a goal Foster has set for himself to complete a marathon a month until at least the end of this year.

Foster wrote on Instagram: “Amazingly I came first time [sic] which I wasn't expecting... Now looking for my next one if anyone has any recommendations…”

“Thanks to anyone who sponsored me, or wished me luck. It really helped me get through!

Foster has also created a GoFundMe page to raise money for a custom wheelchair basketball chair. As of writing, he has raised £2,341 in donations, which is 67% of his £3,500 goal.

He plays for the London Titans and previously the Brunel Bulls, where he was the first ever nominated Player of the Season.

On their Instagram, Brunel Bulls wrote: “A demon in defense, and utterly fearless - he never thinks twice about stopping someone twice his size.

The marathon itself took place on the renowned Oulton Park motor circuit in Cheshire. The whole course is tarmac, providing a smooth surface well-suited for wheelchair racing. It also facilitates a safer marathon experience compared to road-based routes.

Foster’s marathon mission continues with the Run Dorney Lake Marathon on 26 September and the Running GP at Goodwood Motor Circuit on 6 December.
